Manesar: Maruti Suzuki India Limited has inaugurated a new vehicle assembly line at its Manesar facility, marking a significant expansion in its production capabilities. The commissioning of this assembly line has effectively increased Maruti Suzuki’s production capacity by an additional 100,000 units per annum.

With the addition of this assembly line, the total manufacturing capacity at the Manesar plant now stands at an impressive 900,000 vehicles per annum. The first vehicle to roll off this new assembly line was the Ertiga model.

Expressing commitment to the Government of India’s “Make in India” vision, Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, stated, “Maruti Suzuki aims to nearly double our capacity to 4 million vehicles per annum over the next 7-8 years, and this capacity addition of 100,000 vehicles per year is a significant step towards achieving this goal.”

Takeuchi highlighted that the new assembly line incorporates advanced technologies aimed at enhancing human ergonomics, improving productivity, and enhancing traceability.

Last week, Maruti Suzuki India celebrated a significant milestone, achieving a cumulative production of over 3 crore car units in India. This accomplishment positions Maruti Suzuki as the fastest among all Suzuki production bases to reach this milestone, achieving it in just 40 years and four months since rolling out its first car in December 1983.

The Manesar plant has played a pivotal role in Maruti Suzuki’s journey, contributing over 95 lakh units to the company’s cumulative production milestone of 3 crore units. The plant manufactures a diverse range of vehicles, including popular models such as the Brezza, Ertiga, XL6, Wagon R, Dzire, S-Presso, Ciaz, and Celerio.

Maruti Suzuki’s success extends beyond production milestones. In 2023, the company sold over 20 lakh vehicles and doubled its market share in the SUV segment within a year, reporting an impressive 24% year-on-year growth in the SUV segment.

In the calendar year 2023, Maruti Suzuki India dispatched 17,07,668 units of total passenger vehicles (PVs), contributing significantly to the industry’s total dispatches. Moreover, in the April-December period, the company recorded dispatches of 12,80,090 units, reflecting a notable year-on-year growth of 8.54% compared to the corresponding period in 2022-23.

Maruti Suzuki’s dominant presence in the domestic market is evident, holding over 43% market share and contributing nearly 40% of total vehicle exports from India.
